And performing squats not only gives you good leg strength to move from one place to another it is also an important human functional movement you should have access to whenever you want. Imagine not able to get low and hang out with toddlers or do your gardening because you cannot squat. Or not able to squat and dodge a punch. Unfortunately, most people lost their ability to squat properly. The truth is you were born to squat when you were a toddler.

And mastering your Perfect Squat is not only essential to improving your leg strength it will help you develop healthier knees, hips and ankles. Life is definitely better when you can squat.

Is Squatting Below Parallel Bad For Your Knees?

You probably heard of the myth that squatting below parallel or with your knees going in front of your feet is bad for your knees. In fact, not acquiring enough range in the squat may develop imbalance in the leg muscles that can cause knee pain. VMO (vastus medialis obliquus) muscles which is responsible for preventing the knee valgus may not be strong enough to do the job and that muscles get recruited at the bottom range of the squat. And knee Valgus can lead to knee pain and injuries.

The truth is how you squat is hurting your knees not the squats that hurt your knees. A squat done properly should not hurt the knees or low back (unless you have specific structural issues).
